I have always worn hats. And over years of fittings, I noticed one thing: most people prefer themselves without one.
A cap is often bought for practical reasons: sun, rain, cold. But people often take longer to decide. It is usually not about the price.
A hat changes a person where they are most used to seeing themselves.
Next to their face.
Sometimes we need time to get used to a new version of ourselves.
I have seen this many times. One of my clients had never worn a newsboy cap and considered that style a little too hooliganish. Then he bought his first one, trusting my recommendation. He received many compliments. Came back for a second. And after watching The Gentlemen, bought a third.
Perhaps that is why I became interested in making them myself.
When I started, the choice of headwear in stores was limited. I wanted different caps for different occasions. Nothing that looked mass-produced.
Over several years I made around a hundred hats. Tweed, cashmere, wool, linen, cotton and denim. Most of them were newsboy caps. Some found their owners through Etsy, others through my showroom.
Some things suit you right away.
A hat sometimes needs time to become yours.
